My Home Page

Today is Wednesday, the 17th of February 2010 (Ash Wednesday), and it is the first day of the rest of my life. It's a homecoming, of sorts, as I do not visit this site that often. However, I plan to use this as my computer "Home Page", so let's get started...let's get to work.

Here is where I will list my various blogspots and websites. See the various posts which follow. I have also transferred many photos to the Picasa Web Site and have tried to arrange them by subject as best I can, and that listing is in the post "Picasa". You can locate these pictures at picasaweb.google.com.

Swedish Visits

Swedish Tour USA 2008

Sven-Erik and his wife Anna-Lisa Simonsson, and Ingemar and his wife Margareta Isaksson, toured in South Dakota and Minnesota from 13-23 June 2008. They first visited in my home in Sioux Falls; and stayed two nights at the home of my nephew Roger Person and his wife Linda. On their second day they were hosted by my nephew Ronald Person and his wife Judi. They then travelled to western South Dakota, then up to northern Minnesota. Sven-Erik and Margareta are the children of my cousins Erik and Svea Simonsson in Sweden (both now deceased).

Sven-Erik provided 297 pictures of this trip for us to enjoy, which you may see on the following web site. Click on the link below, then open the "Slide Show" and you will witness these pictures, showing at the rate of one every four seconds. At that speed, total running time is about 20 minutes.

Crafts - Quilts and More

My exhibit at the NordlandFest in Sioux Falls in 1995 where I displayed my crafts frequently (annually). Crafts included quilting, Hardanger stitchery, cross-stitching, latchhook, and needlepoint.

After retirement from the Navy, a neighbor lady introduced me to latchhooking--and hooked I was!!! After making about a dozen or more Shillcraft rugs, it became rather expensive and I had no way to display them properly.

When I visited in Sweden and Norway, I was fascinated by their Hardanger stitchery and needlepoint designs. I took lessons on Hardanger stitchery from Rosaaen Olson who owned and operated the Viking Heritage Shop. Again, once I started doing various patterns, it was impossible to stop, and stitch and stitch I did, almost day and night.

Then a friend of mine, Gertrude Nearman, from whom I had purchased my home at 1919 South West Avenue in Sioux Falls, showed me many of the quilts she had completed, and I thought to myself, "I can do that. It looks like something I'd enjoy." And I delved into my new hobby with renewed enthusiasm, and I couldn't quit. Most of my quilts are hand-cut, hand-pieced, and hand-quilted. I never considered myself a knowledgable quilter, but I'm usually pretty pleased with the result. I definitely am not a professional and sometimes after working on a project, I wish I had selected different colors.

Below, Anna-Lisa Simonsson and Margareta Isaksson, cousins who were visiting from Sweden, examine some of my quilts laid out on the bed.

Benton Lutheran Church

BENTON LUTHERAN CHURCH, Crooks, SD

The photo above was taken from the northeast corner of the church on the backside of the church, in June 2008.

Benton Lutheran Church is located 2 1/4 miles west of Crooks, SD. Pastor is the Rev. Jerry Nuernberger. A link to the web page which contains a database of members, baptisms, confirmations, marriages, deaths, burials, and photographs of pastors is located at:
http://glennsbackporch.homestead.com/

This website is an unofficial document of Benton Lutheran Church; it was prepared by Glenn C. Johnson using church records; but, unfortunately, not all the records were available to be included.

Lyons High School

LYONS HIGH SCHOOL, Lyons, South Dakota

The following blogspot link contains the class rosters from 1923-1967, and also the class photos from 1936 - 1967. It has a report on the latest school reunion and more. You can just read, or leave a message and blog as desired. Click on:

A geocities website, which was the original website, also contained the pictures and other info, but I can no longer open that site to make necessary changes. I'm trying to remove it from the web, but it seems to be an impossible task. It was a free website, but I don't want to confuse everyone by having that in circulation also.

Some pictures are also available in a Picasa album on:
